Sand Sharks Enjoy Banner Semester In Classroom

Student-athletes at the University of South Carolina Beaufort had their best semester in the classroom since the program’s inception during the fall 2011 semester, compiling a collective GPA of 2.982. A total of 56 of the school’s 158 student-athletes earned honors, with 10 making the President’s List (4.0 GPA required) and 46 making the Chancellor’s List (3.5 GPA required; 3.25 for freshmen).
“As USCB continues to grow we feel it is very important to continue to bring in student-athletes who will enhance the entire university’s image and not just that of the program they play in,” athletics director Ty Rietkovich said. “Our coaches are committed to making sure we have success both in the classroom and on the athletic field.  These numbers reinforce that our commitment is not just words, but has a real meaning for us.  I applaud the efforts of Brandi Laval, who oversees our academic success program for our student-athletes.  This was great news.”
Rietkovich’s softball team, which will begin its inaugural season Feb. 11 with a home doubleheader against Wesleyan College from Macon, Ga., led the way with a team GPA of 3.254 and 17 honors students among the 29 players. The women’s cross country (3.223), women’s golf (3.015) and women’s soccer (3.015) programs also posted team GPAs over 3.0, and the baseball team’s 2.928 GPA was its highest mark ever.
