Bluffton/Beaufort, SC – The University of South Carolina Beaufort (USCB) is pleased to announce applications are now being accepted for its annual Computational Science (CSci) Scholarship program. These highly competitive and prestigious “Academic Computing Scholarship” awards will provide valuable financial assistance, per year, for up to ten of USCB’s best and brightest CSci students- both current and prospective.
Each year, up to five qualified students who are in-state residents of South Carolina will each receive an award of $1,000, while up to five qualified out-of-state students will each receive a award of $500 in addition to a waiver of all out-of-state fees.
The CSci scholarship program is open to new and transfer students applying to USCB. In order to be considered for the Academic Computing Scholarship, all applicants must have a minimum 3.0 cumulative GPA at the student's current or most recent institution, or have scored a 1050 minimum SAT score (as combined from the critical reading and math sections), or possess exceptional talent in any science, technology, engineering, or mathematics discipline (as demonstrated by having completed projects, reports, papers, and/or software programs).
Applicants will also need to provide at least two letters of reference from teachers or professors, a resume that illustrates exceptional academic and/or professional achievement, as well as a brief essay highlighting the applicant's personality, interest in the Computational Science major, and career goals.
All Computational Science Scholars are eligible to continue receiving the scholarship award each year, provided they declare Computational Science as their major, a minimum USCB GPA of 3.0, and retain full-time status at USCB (at least 12 credit hours per semester).

Computational Science (CSci) is a field of applied Computer Science (CS) in which computing theories and software techniques are used to serve and advance many diverse fields, including science, engineering, social science, and business. Computational Science is considered to be "one of the five college majors on the rise" (Chronicle of Higher Education, Aug. 2009) and is "central to the Nation's long-term technical leadership" (Computational Science: Ensuring America’s Competitiveness, President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee, 2005).
