About the Computational Science program at USCB

Computational Science (CSci) is a field of applied Computer Science (CS) in which computing theories and software techniques are used to serve and advance many diverse fields, including science, engineering, social science, and business. Computational Science is considered to be "one of the five college majors on the rise" (Chronicle of Higher Education, Aug. 2009) and is "central to the Nation's long-term technical leadership" (Computational Science: Ensuring America’s Competitiveness, President’s Information Technology Advisory Committee, 2005).

The University of South Carolina Beaufort is only one of a handful of schools in the U.S. that offer a B.S. in Computational Science. Through an interdisciplinary program of coursework, research, and internships carefully tailored to each student’s capabilities and interests, graduates of USCB’s Computational Science program can expect to find rewarding career opportunities across a number of areas, including physics-based modeling and simulation for engineering design, bioinformatics and bioengineering, computer game design and development, software engineering and optimization, data visualization and computer graphics, rich internet and mobile application development, innovative navigation and remote sensing applications, intelligent information and image analysis, and high performance computing for both large-scale and desktop applications.
